Sarah holds a BA in History, Political Science, and Global Studies from the University of Pittsburgh and a MA in Southeast Asian Studies from the University of Wisconsin. Her doctoral research addresses how notions of quality and value are manufactured by producers, buyers, traders, and consumers throughout the industrial and specialty coffee industries. She is currently conducting multi-sited research in Vietnam, Indonesia, and other spaces where the global coffee industry manifests such as world tasting and barista championships and farmer training seminars. Other research interests include the anthropology of reason, the future of anthropology and anthropological futures, land use rights, agricultural development, Southeast Asian studies, feminist theory, and creative pedagogy.
