Patrick completed his B.A. in Anthropology and M.A. in Latin American Studies at UCLA. His dissertation research takes place in Southern California's Coachella Valley and deals with migration, economy, and social stratification. Interests include migration, stratification, economy, political ecology, the importance of place, gender, historical materialism, cooking, and Harry Potter.
