Areas of interest: Mesoamerican archaeology, paleoethnobotany, ethnoarchaeology, foodways, ancient Mayasubsistence, starch grain analysis.
My current research interests are investigating the role and significance of root-crops for the ancient lowland Maya by focusing on starch grain analysis and data garnered from ethnoarchaeological observation, sampling, and from experimental and replicative studies. My research involves documenting the effects of cultural and natural processes on root-crop starches and understanding the potential pathways in which root-crop starches are incorporated into the archaeological record.
