I study the current shifting landscape of American Indian cultural revitalization movements and the formation of indigenous group identity in the context of globalization.   My doctoral research explores the efforts of contemporary Chumash Indians in southern California to collectively revive, modify, and recreate culturally specific identities by reclaiming their heritage, ancestral knowledge, traditions, art, and language amidst modern American culture.
