I am interested in identifying the characteristics that separate humans from other hominin species, the evolutionary processes that have made us unique, the nature and ultimate causes of human biological and cultural behavior, and the larger social and scientific implications of this variation. I am particularly interested in the role played by Neandertals in the evolution of our species and what they can tell us about the process of becoming modern.
