Jessica received her BA in Anthropology from Trinity University and her MA in Anthropology from California State University, Los Angeles with a focus in cultural anthropology. Her dissertation research is in the field of Medical Anthropology with a focus on the conception of health and healthy bodies, and primarily on the popular discourse of how patients are asked to be a part of "participatory health care." Also of concern is how the American media and advertising influence popular notions of health. Her other research interests are: identity and boundary making processes, issues of representation, globalization, migration, risk, and popular culture.
